Senator John McCain was laid to rest today as all of the Washingtonian elite gathers to pay their respects to the Vietnam veteran and distinguished statesman — all of them, that is, except the President of the United States.
While he wasn’t invited to the funeral due to his decades-long feud with McCain, there were many things the President could have done this morning that wouldn’t have been so obviously rude and disrespectful.
But of course, any regard for protocol or any kind of basic modicum of politeness has never been a concern of Donald Trump’s, which is why he spent his morning golfing instead of literally anything else that wouldn’t have been a final proverbial middle-finger to the prominent Republican who dared to call him out for the damage he’s done to this nation.

President Trump has gone out of his way to let us know that he thinks McCain’s death is getting too much attention and is taking the spotlight away from him, even sparking an unnecessary outpouring of outrage from veterans’ groups and media figures alike when he demanded that his staff prematurely raise the White House flag from its half-mast mourning position back up to the regular position.
While it’s honestly no surprise that Trump is golfing today, the fact that this is what he’s doing while former Presidents Bush and Obama gave powerful eulogies at McCain’s funeral really hits home just how selfish and spiteful a “president” we have somehow found ourselves saddled with.
