Conservatives love to whine when critics of Donald Trump are “unkind” to him, which usually equates to quoting the president or asking him a simple question.
Conservatives also have no issue with desecrating the memory of one of their own if they dare to speak out against Trump and his toxic brand of populism.
Such is the case in the wake of the passing of former First Lady Barbara Bush, whose legacy was burned in a recent Instagram post from Trump’s old Buddy and political contributor Roger Stone.
Stone posted a screenshot from a Twitter account which quoted Stone saying “Barbara Bush drank so much booze, if they cremated her… her body would burn for three days!?”
He then added his own caption to add insult to injury. Barbara Bush was a nasty drunk. When it came to drinking she made Betty Ford look like Carrie Nation #blottoBabs.”
He further elaborated on that sentiment in a statement to The Wrap, saying, “She said far worse things about me. Barbara Bush was a vindictive, entitled, mean-spirited woman. May she rest in peace.”
The former first lady passed away surrounded by her family after years of declining health at the age of 92.
Last year, Stone was banned from Twitter (one of the first in the social media fight against white supremacy) after he launched expletive-laden tweets aimed at various media personalities. He’s still allowed on Instagram, since text sharing is not the core of their platform.
Stone has been a vocal critic of the Bush family for years, even writing a book about their admittedly numerous misdeeds, entitled: “Jeb! and the Bush Crime Family: The Inside Story of an American Dynasty.”
While it’s no secret that the Bush family did many incredibly bad things for this country, the late Mrs. Bush often ran counter to her family’s more conservative leanings. Even had she not, she certainly wasn’t a villain like the current occupant of the Oval Office for whom Stone is constantly promoting.
Most importantly, if you’re going to trash someone after they’ve passed, at least focus on things they really did wrong – like not saying anything as her son prepared to invade Iraq.
But to come after one of her vices in defense of a buffoon? That’s a waste of an Instagram post.
